A captivating sight in Montivedeo, Argentina as dusk settles over the harbour.
M.Navy Gunnery Course, 1957
Seaman's I.D Card in use when I returned to sea in 1976.

A temporary slump in the shipping industry saw some of us attending a Union-sponsored Gunnery Course in 1957. I remember us having to heft heavy shells into the breach of a sizeable gun and lock it into position. As one of our number activated the firing device the rest of us added encouragement by shouting "BANG".
Very impressive it was. We were also advised that in the event of an atomic explosion at sea we were to look the other way. Assuming the explosion would have been in the close vicinity of the ship I doubt we would have been capable of looking anywhere-except hopefully toward Heaven.

Seaman's I.D Card carried by seamen during and after WW2. Ration coupon entitlements for periods on leave were entered on the back page. No infringements of Civil Rights argued here.
A visit to the movies in Hong Kong in Coronation Year 1953. Fortunately the dialogue was in English.
Kit List kindly supplied by ex-Vindi Boy and now Site Bosun of the TSVA website.

Korean Shore Pass
Lifeboat Certificate issued in Cape Town.
Medical Certificate allowing bearer to administer BoT pills and potions.

Chief Stewards who had left the M.N and gone ashore for a while but wished to return to sea were rewarded with three months paid leave to attend a refresher course at the M.Navy hotel in Liverpool. Happy days
NEBS got in on the act as well.
Card games were always popular at sea, and the arrival in port of Bonded Stores Reps was always looked forward to. They always supplied advertising freebies.
